The Directive:
    – governs the principles of protecting people reporting irregularities in the observance of European law in companies and institutions operating in the European Union, as well as protecting the people supporting them;
    – specifies the principles of safely providing information through individual information channels (within individual organisations and/or externally to regulators and state institutions); and
    – specifies the areas of EU law to which these principles will be applied.
    The directive is waiting for the approval of the ministers of the EU Member States. After acceptance by the ministers, the Member States will have two years to implement the Directive into the national legal system.
    A bill submitted by the Council of Ministers to the Sejm at the beginning of the year on the liability of collective entities for prohibited acts under the threat of a penalty (Act) introduces the notion of a whistleblower into Polish law to a greater extent. The parliamentarians should pay attention to the compliance of its provisions with the above Directive during the legislative process.
