A draft law on minimum wages has recently appeared on the RCL website, aiming to implement into the national legal order the EU directive on adequate minimum wages in the EU. The new law is intended to replace the existing one, however, some solutions have been duplicated. So what are the most significant assumptions of the draft?
Above all, it is proposed that the minimum wage be set at 55% of the projected average wage in the national economy. Another significant change is to equalize the minimum wage with the basic wage, which for many employees will entail a salary increase. The draft also provides for the introduction of new types of violations of employees' rights related to the payment of wages, and an increase in the amount of fines from PLN 1,500 to PLN 45,000 with which an employer can be punished. In addition, employees are to be entitled to interest for the time of delayed payment of wages.
The planned effective date of the legislation is 15 November this year, but the provisions on equalizing the minimum wage with the basic wage would take effect on 1 January 2025. The draft law is currently at the opinion stage.
The Entry/Exit System (EES) will replace the stamping of passports at the Schengen borders, and the entry and exit data of non-EU travelers will be digitally recorded. The new system aims to improve border management by m.in detecting overstays and false residence permits, personal data will be stored for up to 3 years.
The Entry/Exit System (EES) will be used by 29 countries. In Cyprus and Ireland, even though they are European Union countries, passports will still be stamped by hand.
The minimum wage in 2025 is expected to be PLN 4626 gross - such a proposal was adopted by the government in mid-June. However, as a result of the final entry in the budget law of a higher-than-expected projected inflation rate, i.e. at 5.0%, the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy is considering sweeping changes in this regard.
Under current regulations, when the projected inflation rate is at least 5%, two deadlines are set for changing the minimum wage (and hourly rate) during the year, as exemplified in the last two years. We should know the final amount of the minimum wage for next year by 15 September, at which time the deadline for the government to adopt a relevant regulation in this regard passes.

The UK remains in 4th place along with Belgium, Denmark, New Zealand, Norway and Switzerland, even though its result in visa-free travel has fallen to 190. Poland ranked comfortably in 6th place with a result of 188 countries to which Polish citizens can travel without a visa.
